Chennai – 600028 review
Quite a strange name for a movie. We haven’t seen many with numbers, spare pin codes. Well the pin code points to some kuppam where the team resides. Team? What team? Oops I forgot, it could well have been the theme of the film
Chennai 600028 aka cheri tennis ball cricket.
The 600028 is the den of the so called sharks – the colony team. The area is one prime cheri and the players were as expected teens. The film starts off with a mokkai suspense of a cricket match. The graphics is horrible and the cricket ground is pathetic. It could sure have been well put on screens. This is followed by another mokkai - introduction of the eleven players of the cheri team. As expected in a tamil cinema, there has to be a opposition team, which is called Chicago bulls, sorry, rayapuram rockers. The main storyline revolves around the cheri, the tennis ball, the flood light corporation ground, the two teams, one average homely girl and one hot babe.
To make something unusual, Other than the normal cricket matches, the story starts off with raghu, a rockers team bowler, moving his residence to the kuppam 600028. The director has taken great pain to portray the residence as a kuppam and thereby takes no pain in his budget. In fact, the producer would be a happy man, because there are no start casts, and hence no expenses. The players of the sharks team were given biriyani, quarter and a red t shirt to act in the film. The rockers team is even bad, they could manage only a blue shirt. You could hardly two actors in the film, who were not making the debut with this film.
The film moves with great pace, and both the halves were almost alike. Now raghu, who is dropped for one match from the rockers team, joins the sharks team. He is an expert adviser and offers some mokkai advice relieving the weakness of his former team players. Almost all of the team members are portrayed as tharuthalais, and thanada soru.
The spirit of cricket was there in their blood. In almost all scenes, at least one bloody begger has a cigarette in his hand, and the tasmac is shown twelve times in this film. Costly budget film.
Getting to the last two things in this agenda, the average looking homely girl and the other horny girl. The first one is a sister of one of the team players and also girl friend to another player in the team. The second babe is quite hot and has two songs in the movie, which are almost the only scenes she appears in the movie. But quite hot! The producer was very strict upon the budghet initially and held most of the shooting at no expenses. Adding to this, he spent nothing on cast too. When he looked at the expenses at the end of the film , he understood he had spent less than five hundred bucks and so the two songs in the movie were shot abroad. Both the songs were picturised well. The second one is hotter!
There are no specialist comedians in the film, since the producer couldn afford any. But the team members of the cheri cricket club association have done a great job in keeping the crowd laughing. Even in serious times of the movie, comedy was well embedded in the screenplay. Almost no mokkais, bear the start. A few of them infact very good. The crowd went laughing over when sandamari asks the captain on winning the toss - "Bowling a Fielding a?" wtf?
Getting to the music – yuvan shankar raja has done a great job. At the time of this writing, I don’t remember any song in my mind, spare this “saroja samman nikk@#%”, popularized by vijay tv. The saroja saman nikala song is one kuthu song in the film, with north Indian babes dancing, It was quite hot. The BGM is quite above average.
People do anticipate and this one was one good anticipation by the producer I must say. Had the world cup went on well for the Indians, not the spectators but the so called “team India”, this film could have brought much more teenagers to the theaters. Horribly things went wrong for the Indians, because the things went on right. The well prepared teams won. Still, the producer should not have expected cricket lovers to come and watch this movie ten times, with the two local kuppam teams playing cricket ball tennis in corporation grounds.
SWOT analysis
Strengths : The comedy, the natural script, one hot babe, one kuthu song
Weakness : No star cast, tennis ball and corporation ground
Oppurtunites : None of the team members were given priority over the other, except one. This bloody begger was the one who had those two abroad shootings, and that too with the hot babe. But his role was also little. May be the comedian could get another chance in the upcoming movies. This film cannot be watched over and again. Once is quite bearable.
Threats : Because the film is a comedy based one and the viewers would like to see (only) those scenes of comedy, this film can be watched in thirutu vcd. There is nothing that places the fact that the movie has to be watched only in theaters.
